Find the sum of 13, 412, 687 and 908

(A) 2020      (B) 2000       (C) 1950

Solution : 

Sum of 13, 412, 687 and 908  =  13 + 412 + 687 + 908

  =  2020

Question 3 :

The population of a town is 450772. 1 out of every 14 persons is reported to be educated. In all, how many educated persons are there in the town. 

(A) 32198        (B) 35000       (C) 14265

Solution :

Total population  =  450772

Number of educated persons  =  450772/14

  =  32198

Hence the number of educated persons is 32198.

Question 4 :

The population of a village is 1500. If 489 are men and 472 are women and the remaining are children. Find the number of children.

(A) 539       (B) 530        (C) 129

Solution :

Number of children 

=  Total number of people - (Number of men + Number of women)

  =  1500 - (489 + 472)

  =  1500 - 961

  =  539

Hence the number of children are 539.

Question 5 :

Find the cube of -13.

(A) 2197       (B) -2197        (C) 169

Solution :

Cube of -13  =  (-13)3

=  -2197

Question 6 :

Simplify the following expression 

30 - [15 - {6 + (18 - 14)}]

(A) 15        (B) 25          (C) 28

Solution :

  =  30 - [15 - {6 + (18 - 14)}]

  =  30 - [15 - (6+4)]

  =  30 - [15 - 10]

  =  30 - 5

  =  25

Hence the answer is 25.

What is the largest 4 digit number? 

(A) 4444     (B) 9999       (C) 8542

Solution :

The largest 4 digit number is 9999.

Question 8 :

HCF and LCM of two numbers are 5 and 280 respectively. If one of the number is 35, find the other number.

(A) 20         (B) 30         (C) 40

Solution :

Relationship between HCF and LCM.

HCF x LCM  =  Product of two numbers

HCF  =  5, LCM  =  280

One of the number  =  35

Let  be the unknown number.

5 x 280  =  35 ⋅ x

x  =  (5 ⋅ 280)/35

x  =  40

Hence the answer is 40.

Question 9 :

An office opens at 9:00 am and closes at 5:30 pm with a lunch interval of 30 minutes. What is the ratio of lunch interval to the total period in office.

(A) 1 : 17           (B) 17 : 1        (C) 1 : 15

Solution :

The time difference between 9 : 00 am to 5.30 pm is 8 hours 30 minutes.

8 hours  =  8 (60)  =  480 seconds

480 + 30  =  510 seconds

Ratio between the lunch interval and total period in office.

  =  510 : 30

  =  51 : 3

  =  17 : 1

Question 10 :

Solve the equation x - 7  =  -15

(A) 4       (B) -8      (C) 15

Solution :

x - 7  =  -15

x  =  -15 + 7

x  =  -8

Hence the answer is -8.
