DESCRIBING SLOPE

Slope can be positive, negative, zero, or undefined. Without doing calculation, you can tell which of these is the case by looking at the graph of a line.

Tell whether the slope of each line is positive, negative, zero, or undefined.

Example 1 :

Solution :

The line falls from left to right.

The slope is negative.

Example 2 :

Solution :

The line is horizontal.

The slope is 0.

Example 3 :

Solution :

The line is vertical.

The slope is undefined.

Example 4 :

Solution :

The line rises from left to right.

The slope is positive.

Positive Slope

Negative Slope

Zero Slope
