FIND THE MISSING VALUES IN THE GIVEN MATRIX EQUATION

Question 1 :

Find x and y if

Solution :

4x - 2y  =  4 ------(1)

-3x + 3y  =  6  -----(2)

Dividing (1) by 2, we get

2x - y  =  2

Dividing (2) by 3, we get

-x + y  =  2

By adding these two equations, we get

2x - y - x + y  =  2 + 2

x  =  4

By applying the value of x, we get

-4 + y  =  2

y  =  2 + 4

y  =  6

Question 2 :

Find the non-zero values of x satisfying the matrix equation

Solution :

12x  =  48

x  =  48/12

x  =  4

Question 8 :

Solve for x, y :

Solution :

x2 - 4x  =  5  ------(1)

y2 - 2y  =  8  ------(2)

x2 - 4x - 5  =  0

x2 - 1x - 5x + 5  =  0

x(x - 1) - 5(x - 1)  =  0

(x - 1)(x - 5)  =  0

x  =  1 and 5

y2 - 2y  =  8

y2 - 2y - 8  =  0

y2 - 4y + 2y - 8  =  0

y(y - 4) + 2(y - 4)  =  0

(y + 2) (y - 4)  =  0

y  =  -2 and 4.
