Detailed Answer Key

(1)  Answer :

Let us consider "n" as input value and "m" as output value.

Rule ==> Four times the input number.

Formula :

m  =  4n

Input

n = 1

n = 2

n = 3

n = 4

Output

m  =  4(1) ==>  4

m  =  4(2) ==>  8

m  =  4(3) ==>  12

m  =  4(4) ==>  16

Completing the table :

Input (n)

1

2

3

4

Output (m)

4

8

12

16

(2)  Answer :

Rule ==> The input number plus three.

Formula :

m  =  n+3

Input

n = 4

n = 6

n = 12

n = 26

Output

m  = 4+3  ==>  7

m  = 6+3  ==>  9

m  = 12+3  ==>  15

m  = 26+3  ==>  29

Completing the table :

Input (n)

4

6

12

26

Output(m)

7

9

15

29

(3)  Answer :

Rule ==> Add two then multiply by 3

Formula :

m  =  3(n+2)

Input

n = 0

n = 1

n = 2

n = 5

Output

m  = 3(0+2)  ==>  6

m  = 3(1+2) ==>  9

m  = 3(2+2)  ==>  12

m  = 3(5+2)  ==>  21

Completing the table :

Input (n)

0

1

2

5

Output (m)

6

9

12

21

(4)  Answer :

Rule ==> Multiply the input number by itself.

Formula :

m  =  n ⋅ n

Input

n = 1

n = 2

n = 3

n = 5

Output

m  = 1 ⋅ 1  ==>  1

m  = 2 ⋅ 2  ==>  4

m  = 3 ⋅ 3  ==>  9

m  = 5 ⋅ 5  ==>  25

Completing the table :

Input (n)

1

2

3

5

Output (m)

1

4

9

(5)  Answer :

Rule ==> Double the input number then add one.

Formula :

m  =  2n+1

Input

n = 1

n = 2

n = 3

n = 8

Output

m  = 2(1)+1  ==>  3

m  = 2(2)+1  ==>  5

m  = 2(3)+1  ==>  7

m  = 2(8)+1  ==>  17

Completing the table :

Input (n)

1

2

3

8

Output (m)

3

5

7

17

(6) Answer :

Rule ==> Subtract 3 then multiply by 2.

Formula :

m  =  2(n-3)

Input

n = 3

n = 4

n = 10

n = 15

Output

m  = 2(3-3)  ==>  0

m  = 2(4-3)  ==>  2

m  = 2(10-3)  ==>  14

m  = 2(15-3)  ==>  24

Completing the table :

Input (n)

3

4

10

15

Output (m)

0

(7) Answer :

complete-the-table-q3.png

Let us create the rule to fill up the table,

In each case there will be 12 cans.

Total number of drinks = 12(number of cases)

  • Number of cases of cola = 2
  • Number of cases of water = 3
  • Number of cases of lemon water = 5
  • Number of cases of club soda = 10

We have to consider the above are inputs, applying these values one by one

  • Total number of cola = 12(2) ==> 24
  • Total number of water = 12(3) ==> 36
  • Total number of lemon water = 12(5) ==> 60
  • Total number of club soda = 12(10) ==> 120

(8) Answer :

complete-the-table-q4.png

Pairs of socks Ellivie has = 18

Pairs of socks Silvie's mom has = 10

Pairs of socks Silvie's dad has = 15

Each pair will consist of 2 socks.

We have to consider the above are inputs, applying these values one by one

  • Number of socks Ellivie has = 18(2) ==> 36
  • Number of socks Silvie's mom has = 10(2) ==> 20
  • Number of socks Silvie's dad has = 15(2) ==> 30

The required rule is,

total number of socks = 2 (number of pairs)

(9) Answer :

complete-the-table-q5.png

a) By observing all values in the input column, every input is increased by 5.

Values in output columns, each value increases by 3 or multiple of 3.

Each input should be divided by 5 and multiply by 3.

Then, the required rule will be output = 3/5 x input

b)

  • When input = 40, output = (3/5) x 40 ==> 24
  • When input = 45, output = (3/5) x 45 ==> 27
  • When input = 50, output = (3/5) x 50 ==> 30

Completing the table,

Input

25

30

35

40

45

50

Output

15

18

21

24

27

30

c) When input = 100, output = (3/5) x 100

= 3 x 20

= 60
