Answers

1. Answer :

2.584 x 10

Since 2.584 is multiplied by 10, the decimal point has to be moved one digit to the right.

Then,

2.584 x 10 = 25.84

Multiplying 2.584 by 10, we get 25.84.

2. Answer :

2.584 x 100

Since 2.584 is multiplied by 100, the decimal point has to be moved two digits to the right.

Then,

2.584 x 100 = 258.4

Multiplying 2.584 by 100, we get 258.4.

3. Answer :

2.584 x 1000

Since 2.584 is multiplied by 1000, the decimal point has to be moved three digits to the right.

Then,

2.584 x 1000 = 2584

Multiplying 2.584 by 1000, we get 2584.

4. Answer :

2.584 x 10000

Since 2.584 is multiplied by 10000, the decimal point has to be moved four digits to the right. But, in 2.584, there are only three digits after the decimal point. Add one zero at the end to get four digits after the decimal point.

Then,

2.584 x 10000 = 2.5840 x 10000

= 25840

Multiplying 2.584 by 10000, we get 25840.

5. Answer :

0.07 x 10000

Since 0.07 is multiplied by 10000, the decimal point has to be moved four digits to the right. But, in 0.07, there are only two digits after the decimal point. Add two zeros at the end to get four digits after the decimal point.

Then,

0.07 x 10000 = 0.0700 x 10000

= 700

Multiplying 0.05 by 10000, we get 500.

6. Answer :

0.0065 x 1000

Since 0.0065 is multiplied by 1000, the decimal point has to be moved three digits to the right.

Then,

0.0065 x 1000 = 0.0065 x 1000

= 6.5

Multiplying 0.0065 by 1000, we get 6.5.

7. Answer :

2.8943 x 100

Since 2.8943 is multiplied by 100, the decimal point has to be moved two digits to the right.

Then,

2.8943 x 100 = 289.43

Multiplying 289.43 by 100, we get 289.43.

8. Answer :

1.0001 x 1000

Since 1.0001 is multiplied by 1000, the decimal point has to be moved three digits to the right.

Then,

1.0001 x 1000 = 1000.1

Multiplying 1.0001 by 1000, we get 1000.1.

9. Answer :

Given : Cost of 1 lb. of fruit = $4.75.

Then, the cost of 10 lbs. of the same fruit :

= 10 x 4.75

Since 4.75 is multiplied by 10, the decimal point has to be moved one digit to the right.

= $47.50

10. Answer :

Given : Speed is 42.63 ft. per minute.

Formula for distance :

Distance = Speed x Time

Substitute speed = 42.63 and time = 100.

Distance = 42.63 x 100

Since 42.63 is multiplied by 100, the decimal point has to be moved two digits to the right.

Distance = 4263 ft.

So, the distance covered by the man in 100 minutes is 4263 ft.

11. Answer :

Given : Speed of the car is 66.72 miles per hour.

That is, distance covered by the car in one hour is 66.72 miles.

1 hour ----> 66.72 miles

60 minutes ----> 66.72 miles

1 minute ----> (66.72/60) miles

1 minute ----> 1.112 miles

Distance covered by the car in one minute is 1.112 miles.

Distance covered by the car in 10 minutes :

= 1.112 x 10

Since 1.112 is multiplied by 10, the decimal point has to moved 1 digit to the right.

= 11.12 miles

12. Answer :

Given : Ten-thousandth of a certain number is 0.0009.

Let k be the number.

Then, from the given information, we get

(1/10000) x k = 0.0009

Multiplying both sides by 10000, we get

k = 0.0009 x 10000

Since 0.0009 is multiplied by 10000, the decimal point has to be moved four digits to the right.

k = 9

So, the the number is 9.

13. Answer :

Since 0.07k6 is multiplied by 1000, the decimal point has to be moved three digits to the right.

0.07k6 x 1000 = 7k.6

Given : The product 0.07k6 and 1000 is 75.6.

7k.6 = 75.6

Since the two numbers above are equal, the digits at tens place on the left side and the digit side must be equal.

k = 5
