The following steps would be useful to find the percentage illustrated in a shape.
Step 1 :
Count the total number of sections in the given picture.
Step 2 :
Count the number of shaded portions.
Step 3 :
Write the number of shaded portion in the numerator and total number of portions in the denominator.
Step 4 :
In step 3, if the denominator is not 100, we have to convert the denominator to 100 using multiplication.
Example 1 :
What percentage of the shape is green?
Solution :
Total number of sections = 100.
Number of shaded portions = 71.
Percentage of shaded portions = 71/100.
So, 71% of the shape is green.
Example 2 :
What percentage of the shape is shaded?
Solution :
Total number of sections = 4.
Number of shaded portions = 1.
Percentage of shaded portions = 1/4.
In order to convert the denominator as 100, we have to multiply 4 by 25.
Then, we have
= (1/4) ⋅ (25/25)
= 25/100
= 25%
So, 25% of the shape is shaded.
Example 3 :
What percentage of the shape is shaded?
Solution :
Total number of sections = 2.
Number of shaded portions = 1.
Percentage of shaded portions = 1/2.
In order to convert the denominator as 100, we have to multiply 2 by 50.
= (1 / 2) ⋅ (50 / 50)
= 50/100
= 50%
So, 50% of the shape is shaded.
Example 4 :
What percentage of the shape is shaded?
Solution :
Total number of sections = 100.
Number of shaded portions = 55.
Percentage of shaded portions = 55/100.
So, 55% of the shape is shaded.
Example 5 :
What percentage of the shape is rounded?
Solution :
Total number of stars = 10.
Number of stars rounded = 2.
Percentage of rounded stars = 2/10.
In order to convert the denominator as 100, we have to multiply 10 by 10.
= (2 / 10) ⋅ (10 / 10)
= 20 / 100
So, 20% of the shape is shaded.
