4th GRADE MATH PRACTICE QUESTIONS

Problem 1 :

On a sports day, 161 students are in the play ground. They are standing in 7 equal rows. How many students are in each row ?

(A) 35             (B) 38          (C) 23

Solution :

Total number of students  =  161

Number of rows  =  7

Number of students in each row  =  161/7

  =  23

In each row there will be 23 students.

Problem 2 :

Which of the following shape is circle ?

(A)  First object   (B)  Middle object   (C)  Last object

Solution :

The middle object is circle.

Problem 3 :

If one side of the square is having the length 6 cm then what is the perimeter of the square ?

(A) 10                   (B) 24                (C) 12

Solution :

Side length of square  =  6 cm

Perimeter of square  =  4 (side)

  =  4(6)

=  24 cm

So, the perimeter of the square is 24 cm.

Problem 4 :

Cody rides his bike to the park to meet a friend at noon. Cody arrives at the park at 11:00 a.m. Which question can be answered using this information ?

A. What is the distance between the park and Cody’s house ?

(A)  250 ml   (B)  350 ml    (C)  1650 ml

Solution :

Quantity of cola initially  =  1 liter (1000 ml)

Quantity of cola i drank  =  650 ml

Remaining quantity  =  1000 - 650

 =  250 ml

Problem 6 :

What is the value of 3(x - 6), when x  =  11 ?

Solution :

To find the value of 3(x - 6) when x = 11, we apply the value of x in the expression.

  =  3(11 - 6)

  =  3(5)

  =  15

Problem 7 :

At a wild life center adult entry is $12 and child entry is $8. I pay for 2 adults and 3 children with a $50 bill. How much change ?

Solution :

Cost of adult entry  =  $12

Cost of 2 adult tickets  =  2(12)  ==>  24

Cost of children ticket  =  $8

Cost of 3 children ticket  =  3(8)  ==>   24

   =  24 + 24

   =  48

Change  =  50 - 48

  =  $2

Problem 8 :

What is the mean of 13, 7, 8, 4 ?

Solution :

Mean  =  (13 + 7 + 8 + 4)/4

  =  32/4

  =  8

So, the mean is 8.

Problem 9 :

A rectangular swimming pool measures 5  1/2 meters by 3  1/2. What is the perimeter ?

Solution :

Length of the rectangular pool  =  5  1/2 meter ==>  11/2

Breadth of rectangular pool  =  3  1/2  ==>  7/2

Perimeter of the pool  =  2(l + b)

  =  2(11/2 + 7/2)

  =  11 + 7

  =  18 m

Problem 10 :

The ratio of lions to tigers in a zoo 1 : 3. If there are 4 lions, how many tiger will there be ?

Solution :

Number of lions  =  x

Number of tigers  =  3x

Number of lions (x)  =  4

Then number of tigers  =  3(4)  ==>   12
