Let x be the unknown

Sum of digits

  =  7 + 2 + 4 + x + 2 + 8

  =  23 + x

If we replace x by 4, we get

  =  23 + 4

  =  27

So, the largest number is 4.

Solution :

Complete the following multiplication

Solution :

5.6 x 10  =  56

So, the answer is 56.

Problem 6 :

A spacecraft was launched in space on 3rd May with 2 astronauts. It circled the earth many times and came back to the earth on 5th August. How many days did the astronauts live in space.

 (A) 19 days            (B) 94 days             (C) 12 days

Solution :

May (31 days)  =  31 - 3 ==>  28 days

 June  =  30 days

 July  =  31 days

 August  =  5

  =  28 + 30 + 31 + 5

  =  94 days

Problem 7 :

What is the reciprocal of 13/8

 (A) 8/13              (B) -8/13               (C) -13/8

Solution :

For example reciprocal of a is 1/a.

So, reciprocal of 13/8 is 8/13.

Problem 8 :

A boy secured 88% of the total marks in a public examination. The total marks were 1200. How many did the boy secure ?

 (A) 1023         (B) 1062           (C) 1056

Solution :

Marks secured by boy  =  88% of 1200

  =  (88/100) ⋅ 1200

  =  0.88 (1200)

  =  1056

Problem 9 :

A train covers a distance of 399 km in 6 hours. How much distance will it cover in 16 hours ?

 (A) 1064 km               (B)  1056 km           (C) 1836 km

Solution :

Distance covered  =  399 km, Time taken  =  6 hours

Time  =  Distance / Speed

Speed =  399/6

Distance covered in 16 hours  =  Time ⋅ Speed

  =  16 ⋅ (399/6)

  =  1064

Problem 10 :

A square is of side 5 cm. What is the area ?

 (A) 15 cm2          (B) 25 cm2          (C) 70 cm2

Solution :

Area of square  =  Side ⋅ Side

=  5 ⋅ 5

Area of square  =  25 cm2
