John made 5 cups of tea. She used 3/4 teaspoonful of sugar for each cup of tea. How many teaspoonful of sugar did she use in all ?
(A) 1 ¾ (B) 3 ¾ (C) 1 ¾
Solution :
Total no of cups of tea made by John = 5
Quantity of sugar to make one cup of tea = 3/4
Quantity of sugar to make 5 cups of tea = 5 ⋅ (3/4)
= 15/4
= 3 3/4
Problem 3 :
Mary bought 4/3 kg of beef. She cooked 3/4 kg of it for lunch. How much beef did she cook ?
(A) 1 kg (B) 3 kg (C) 4 kg
Solution :
Quantity of beef that she bought = 4/3 kg
Quantity of beef that she cooked = 3/4 kg
Remaining quantity of beef after used = (4/3) x (3/4)
= (4 ⋅ 3)/12
= 1 kg
Problem 4 :
Jennifer had 18 picture cards. She gave 1/3 of them to Mary. How many picture cards does she have now ?
(A) 12 (B) 13 (C) 14
Solution :
No of picture cards does Jennifer have = 18
No of picture cards gave to Mary = 18 ⋅ (1/3)
= 18/3
= 6
Remaining number of pictures
= Original number of pictures - Number of pictures gave to Mary
= 18 - 6
= 12
Problem 5 :
Mr.John weights 80 kg. His son is 3/5 as heavy. Find their total weight.
(A) 128 kg (B) 135 kg (C) 142 kg
Solution :
Weight of John = 80 kg
Weight of his son = 80 ⋅ (3/5)
= (80 ⋅ 3)/5
= 240/5
= 48 kg
Total weight = Weight of John + Weight of his son
= 80 kg + 48 kg
= 128 kg
Problem 6 :
A man gets $450 per month. He gives 1/8 of the amount to his wife and 1/6 to his children. How much will each get ?
(A) 128 (B) 35 (C) 75
Solution :
Monthly earning of a man = $450
Amount given to his wife = 450 ⋅ (1/8)
= (450 ⋅ 1)/8
= 450/8
= 56.25
Amount given to his children = 450 ⋅ (1/6)
= (450 x 1)/6
= 75
