PROBABILITY CALCULATOR

Probability of an Event - Formula

Let us consider an example to have better understanding of the probability formula given.

Question :

If a coin is tossed thrice, find the probability of getting two heads.

Solution :

Let 'A' be the event of getting two heads.

S  =  { HHH, HHT, HTH, THH, TTT, TTH, THT, HTT}

A  =  { HHT, HTH, THH}

n(S)  =  8 ---> Total no. of possible outcomes

n(A)  =  3 ---->No. of favorable outcomes.

Then,  Probability of A is

=  n(A) / n(S)

=  3/8
